Each class runs for 47 minutes with 3 minutes of passing time
1st hour: Social Studies (8:30 a.m.)
2nd hour: Math
3rd hour: Science
4th hour: Religion
Lunch/Recess (11:50 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.)
5th hour: Special/Elective
6th hour: Grammar & Writing
7th hour: Literature
Study Skills (3:03 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.; not on Wednesdays)
All students in grades 6, 7, and 8 go to gym and computer once a week.
All 6th graders go to Spanish. They have the option of art or band that they attend twice a week.
7th and 8th graders have the option of art, band, or Spanish that they attend three times a week.
The boys typically attend Catholic Central and University of Detroit Jesuit. The girls typically attend Mercy or St. Catherine of Siena Academy.
Students have also chosen Father Gabriel Richard, Divine Child, Cranbrook Kingswood, Greenhills, International Academy West, Northville High School, Novi High School, and South Lyon East.
95% of the Class of 2020 went on to attend a Catholic high school.
In a normal year, 6th grade goes to overnight camp at the Howell Nature Center. They also go to the Fr. Solanus Casey center.
7th grade goes to the play "A Christmas Carol" and Global Village.
8th grade travels to Washington D.C. and the Holocaust Center.
All students have Study Skills three days a week: a half-hour period at the end of the day to start homework and get extra homework help/test review. Friday afternoons are class meetings with homerooms.
Homerooms have 26 students per class. Math classes in the middle school usually have about 15 students per class.
Spanish/gym (6th grade) and computer/gym (7th & 8th grade) are separated by gender, so it depends on how many boys and girls are in the grade.
At the end of 5th grade, placement will be determined for on-level, honors, or advanced 6th grade math. The Math Committee will place students based on composite scores taken from each student’s performance on:

At the end of 6th and 7th grade, the Math Committee will re-assess all students to see if any students can be recommended to be moved from on-level math into advanced math for the following year. The Math Committee will recommend this change in placement based on composite scores taken from each student’s performance on:

Any student transferring into the middle school at OLV from another school will be placed in a math class based on the following information:
The Math Committee may contact the former school to evaluate a student’s former performance level and/or content covered in a class to determine the corresponding level at OLV.
Student Council is made up of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students that are elected by their peers. They participate in leadership meetings and host several events throughout the year to help different charities.
Yes, all students in middle school take home their chromebooks every night to charge.
